Chase Fear from Your Life & Do Not Fear: Bible Verse

Oct 14, 2021 | Blogs, Devotionals

We’re living in a world where things that once seemed “certain” are now changing weekly. Are all the changes that are taking place– and seemingly taking place very rapidly–stirring up fear in you? I know as a mother, it can become overwhelming for me to think what all of these changes may mean for not only me but also for my children. Am I prepared to remain faithful to God no matter what the future may hold? Have I raised my children to be faithful to the Lord in a world in which those who believe in Jesus and hold to Christian teaching will be increasingly under attack?

When I am assailed by those thoughts, I look to and reach out to my Heavenly Father for help. Although I know that none of what is going on in the world has caught Him by surprise, I believe that He is Sovereign over every detail of my personal life as well as everything that’s going on in the world, and nothing is too big for Him. He has equipped you, me, and all of those who have chosen to put their faith in Him and to do His will to be more than conquerors in this world. All throughout His Word, He shows us how to not fear with numerous Bible verses.

Running Towards Your Faith and Do Not Fear – Bible Verse from 1 Chronicles

A story in 1 Chronicles 11 clearly demonstrates the example of someone who didn’t avoid a fierce opponent but instead boldly ran towards and overcame it. He was victorious because he didn’t allow his fear to overwhelm him and lead to his defeat. He confidently went forward, knowing that he could be victorious through the strength God had given to him. It’s the story of Benaiah–someone most people have never heard of– who was one of King David’s mighty men and a commander in the army who helped King David’s son Solomon to become king.

Who was Benaiah’s fierce opponent, and why was it such a feat that he boldly went up against him? It was a literal giant who was 5 cubits–or almost 7.5 feet– tall! But that giant was no match for Benaiah because of his faith in our all-powerful, giant-slaying God!

“And Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was a valiant man of Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds. He struck down two heroes of Moab. He also went down and struck down a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen. And he struck down an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits tall. The Egyptian had in his hand a spear like a weaver’s beam, but Benaiah went down to him with a staff and snatched the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with his own spear. These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and won a name beside the three mighty men.” 1 Chronicles 11:22-24 (ESV)

Becoming a Warrior for God and Your Family

Benaiah’s story illustrates to us that God’s warriors can run with faith towards the giants in their own lives–whatever it is that causes them to have fear–and win the battle! When this mighty man ran towards the giant, he didn’t hesitate or pause. Instead, he ran with confidence, knowing he was going to win because God was with him, and God would give him the strength to slay the giant. You too can be assured of God’s faithful promise that He will never leave or forsake you, that He will be with you wherever you go, and you can do all things through Him Who gives you strength–if only you believe! (Matthew 28:20; Philippians 4:13; John 6:29)
