As I watched the whistle-blowers testify about the Benghazi attacks I thought about what it really means to testify.I pictured myself being asked the tough questions in front of a large panel with cameras pointing at you from every angle, knowing that every word you utter is being recorded and that many will not like what they hear.

Different people were asking questions of those testifying, and many requested that they wanted to learn the “truth.”The bible says that our sins “testify” against us.Our sins afford evidence that we are in need of a savior.

·Isaiah 59:12

“For our offenses are many in your sight, and our sins testify against us. Our offenses are ever with us, and we acknowledge our iniquities.”

·Jeremiah 14:7

“Although our sins testify against us, do something, Lord, for the sake of your name. For we have often rebelled; we have sinned against you.”

And in the same way our sins testify about us, Jesus’ works testified about him.

John 5:36 says:

“I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me.And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,…”

John 7:7

“The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil.”

John 10:25

Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me,”

John 18:37

“You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in believers and His job is to testify as well.

John 15:26

“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.”

With all this testifying and testimony it can begin to feel as if we are living in a court room, and in fact, I believe we are.

Our accuser is Satan, as revealed in Revelation 12:9-11

“ The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpentcalled the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:

‘Now have come the salvation and the power

and the kingdom of our God,

and the authority of his Messiah.

For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,

who accuses them before our God day and night,

has been hurled down.

They triumphed over him

by the blood of the Lamb

and by the word of their testimony;

they did not love their lives so much

as to shrink from death.’”

We are called to testify to Christ:

Acts 10:42: “He (Jesus) commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.”

Paul states in Acts 20:24: “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”

What do your actions testify about you? What do your words testify about you?If you were accused of being a Christian, would there indeed be enough evidence to convict you?
