Throughout our life, we will face times of change, doubt, and uncertainty. Still, when we trust our Heavenly Father, we can conquer those obstacles. God guides us through life with Bible verses and stories about doubt, uncertainty, and insecurity.
5 Bible Verses about Doubt During Troubling Times
Here are some bible verses and stories about doubt and challenging times and how we can conquer those situations with God.
#1 Trust God in Times of Doubt
They said to him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?” And he said, “She is in the tent.” The Lord said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah, your wife, shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah.
So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?” The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time, I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”
But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.” Genesis 18:9-15
The Lesson
Sarah laughed at the thought of having a son because, in all logical sense, she was an “older woman” way past the childbearing years. That’s when God reminds her “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”.
This is our reminder that even if things don’t make sense or we’re feeling doubtful, we need to pray and remember, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”.
#2 Trust God When Your Faith is Put to the Test
“After these things, God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” Genesis 22:1-2
“And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven and said, “By myself, I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven….” Genesis 22:15-17
The Lesson
Abraham’s faith was undoubtedly put to the test, but he was willing to follow God’s command. Since he showed his 100% faith in The Father, God blessed Abraham abundantly. God didn’t want Abraham to sacrifice his son; He wanted to know how strong Abraham’s faith was in Him.
When our faith is tested, we need to remember Abraham and hold firm to our Heavenly Father through prayer and reading The Bible.
#3 Trust God During Times of Uncertainty
“Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:25-26
The Lesson
Remember that you are more valuable than the birds of the air, and God takes care of the birds, so He will take care of you. We can’t control everything in our lives. We can only do our best. Then we need to release control and trust Our Father.
#4 Trust God When You’re Indecisive
“And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.” 1 Kings 18:21
“Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God and that you have turned their hearts back.” Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering…And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces and said, “The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God.” 1 Kings 18:37-39
The Lesson
God will always lead us to the decision we should make, and it’s our job to listen to Him. When you have a daily, ongoing relationship with Him, it’ll become easier for you to hear Him.
Our Father speaks to us in many different forms and you can use the acronym: PEWS to remember the ways God speaks to you:
- People
- Events
- Word- His Word
- Spirit- The Holy Spirit which provides direction or a strong conviction
#5 Trust God During Confusing Times
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
“For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.” Malachi 3:6
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” Isaiah 40:8
The Lesson
Throughout The Bible, we are reminded that God is the same, God doesn’t change, God’s Word will go on forever. So when life is full of confusion, take a step back and focus on Our Heavenly Father. He is our constant reminder during the confusion.
