Prayer for Marriage

Jul 9, 2021 | Prayers

Lord, thank You for the precious gift of marriage, for designing and creating man and woman to be Your perfectly chosen helpmates for one another. May Your Word and Your will be the foundation of our marriage, and may our marriage reflect to our children, our family, our friends, the Church, and the world, the love that You have for Your Bride, the Church, and the role You desire for the Church to have for You, its Bridegroom. (Ephesians 5:22-33)

Convict each of us of our selfish thoughts and ways, fill us each with Your mind, your heart, and Your spirit toward one another, and by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us, enable us to have 1 Corinthians 13 love for one another. May I respect him at all times out of reverence for You, and may I be the vessel through which Your love for him will flow so that he will come to know You better and have a greater understanding of the depth of Your love for him.

Thank You for giving me my spouse whom You knew would be the very person who would help conform me into Your image. Thank You for choosing to protect me through him and for making him my covering. May I be found faithful to pray for him regularly, and may he be the man and husband you have created him to be. By Your grace at work in him, empower him to love me as You have loved the Church, Your Bride. May he have a love for You and Your Word and be willing to assume the spiritual leadership role You have assigned to him for our household. Help me to never usurp his role, to never try to manipulate him, and give me Your wisdom, discernment, understanding, and encouraging spirit so that I will always use the position of influence you have entrusted to me in a way that honors and pleases You. May we both be slow to anger and quick to forgive one another, never allowing the sun to go down with us being angry with one another. (Ephesians 4:26) Use our marriage as an instrument of Your grace that demonstrates Your love, Your patience, Your lovingkindness, Your grace and mercy, so that all who know us will come to know You through Your power and love at work in our marriage. May we be one as You—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—are one; one heart, one mind, and one spirit. I ask this all in the Name of Jesus, the perfect Bridegroom, and the One my heart adores.
