Christmas Prayer 2021

Dec 16, 2021 | Prayers

Dear Lord,

What joy there is to know that You, the Light of the World, continue to shine forth amidst the darkness of this fallen world and that the night cannot overcome You, who can draw people out of the darkness and into Your marvelous, glorious, and life-giving light!

We thank You that the words spoken to the shepherds on the first Christmas are still true for us today and give our life purpose and joy:

“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).

We thank You that no matter the circumstances in our lives and this world, we do not have to fear because You, Immanuel—the One Who is Perfect Love and able to cast out all fear— is always with us, beside us, and will guide us! (Matthew 1:23; 1 John 4:18)

We thank You that we can know that nothing in this world has caught or ever will catch You, our Sovereign, all-knowing God by surprise! In Your infinite love, wisdom, and mercy, You have warned us of these days and assured us that we can still be of good cheer because You have overcome the world. You are working all things together for the good of those who love you. You are bringing about your planned end for the glory of Your Name! (John 16:33; Romans 8:28; Isaiah 46:10)

We thank You that the past few years have highlighted the fragility and brevity of life, causing us to focus our eyes even more upon You, the Only One who has the power to overcome the fear of death. Thank You, Jesus, that death has “lost its sting” for all who choose to put their faith in You! (John 3:16;1 Cor. 15:55) We worship You as the One and Only True and Living God!

We thank You that Your Word makes it clear that we were created for Your pleasure and glory. You desire that we be conformed into the image of Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit, representing Your heart of love to a world that is desperate to hear the good news that You have entrusted us to share. (Romans 8:29; Mark 16:15-16) I rejoice that the greatest news ever told has been given to all people regardless of their socio-economic status, ethnicity, gender, or age, which is the same news that was shared with the shepherds on that very first Christmas:

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon[a] his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

Hallelujah!

Thank you, Jesus, for leaving the glories of Heaven to come to earth to destroy the works of the devil, rescue us, and set us free from the power of sin and its penalty, which is death, giving us abundant and eternal life through trusting in and following You. Thank You for providing the most extravagant gifts of all—life on earth filled with purpose, peace, and joy, as well as the assurance of eternal life in Heaven with You where “death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore!” (Rev. 21:4).

May You be born in me anew today, may I fully surrender my will to Your perfect will, and may I love others enough to share the most important news ever with them so that they too will know You, who is “the Way, the Truth and the Life,” the Only Hope for this world (John 14:6; 1 Peter 1:3-6). I pray this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, the Savior of the World and Redeemer of my life.

Amen.
